New York is getting ready for Columbus day, which now it is no any more a day of celebration for Cristopher Columbus because he was a coloniser, but a day of celebration for the various ethnic groups and emigrants living in the US and the natives, what ever it does mean. Wouldn't be better just to say the day in which this continent was discovered?
This picture is taken outside a bar in the Bronx, you can see the Italian flag and the Trump flag, flying together in a beautiful war autumn day in NY.
People are not allowed to talk politics or religion in bars because these topics are too hot and people end up fighting, physically fighting, with each other. I managed to have a chat with one of the owners of a bar, I was sitting outside with my agent and she came to clean the table, so we started chatting. It is amazing how quickly women connect with each other, within a few minutes we opened up. So here is what I have learned:
many people she knows in the area are black and hispanic and they resent the way the democrats have forgotten them, they were all democrats before but they are switching. I got the feeling that the party has abandoned this segment of society, entrepreneurial middle class. I also sensed a resentment vis-a-vis the policy of immigration, not because 'they are taking our jobs', but because the party is more engaged with them, it shows more interest, it is more attentive.
Overall the people I spoke are not angry, they are disappointed, and yet they have hope. Unlike Europe American are positive.
